Ms Marvel Home Rules
Ms Marvel Home Rules
So... Her preconstructed deck is protection? Nothing here helps with protection. I mean she could run protection in solo, but she doesn't need to. Multiplayer, she can't defend for the team, if she's always flipping. I don't know what they were thinking.
Sneak By: now adds the Response, "If this is the second time you have played this card this phase, increase the threat removed by 2." This is just slightly better. It's six effective resources for eight thwart. Shrink could add another two. But that's why this is cool, because it's flexible. You could use Shrink on the first play or the second play. So you could thwart for 5 and 5, or for 3 and 7. That helps clear side-schemes and such.
Big Hands: now adds the Response, "If this is the second time you have played this card this phase, increase the damage by 2." Same effect as Sneak By, working with Ms Marvel's recursion. It's six effective resources for ten damage. Embiggen could add another two. The flexibility with Embiggen lets you hit for 6 and 6, or for 4 and 8. That could help you defeat different strength minions.
These are not major fixes to her mechanics --it's just a fix to keep those 6 cards from feeling like dead weight that you have to carry around. It's an attempt to make them more interesting and FUN. With Embiggen, her damage approaches the standard 1 resource per 2 damage (6 resources for 12 damage), so that's not game breaking. Technically, Relentless Assault costs 2 for 5 damage plus overkill, so these cards still aren't better than a good aspect card.
Ah, Ms Marvel. Another 1/1/1 stat-line hero
...this pushes her toward justice or leadership.
I like the idea of her --another very flippy hero
...this pushes her toward justice or leadership.
I don't mind all the personas
...those push her toward justice or leadership
I like the whole Embiggen / Shrink mechanic
...those push her toward justice or aggression.
I love her event recursion.
...that pushes her toward justice or aggression.
She doesn't need protection, once she gets Wiggle Room out
...that pushes her toward justice or aggression.I get that she has some great aggression decks, but for my money, we're absolutely cornered into justice here. Flippy heroes are not good in multiplayer protection. Ironically, Vision's precon deck was protection as well. The devs never learn.
Okay, she has some great cards in her hero deck... ...and then there's Sneak By and Big Hands. Ugh. Six 2-cost cards which are worse than regular aspect cards. This has been attributed to a "tax" on her cards due to the power of Embiggen and Shrink. These cards give her deck such a lackluster feel --and it's not just one or two bad cards, it's a third of her hero deck. We want hero cards to shine, not be cards you wish you could dump and trade for aspect cards.
For a minimal change, I didn't have any obvious solutions. I didn't want to change the value of each card, because I sensed that the devs had play-tested higher values and found that was just a little overpowered. Originally, I decided to add a humble Alter-Ego power to each card. After discussion on the Marvel Champions HomeBrew Discord Channel, I decided to avoid the Alter Ego trap. Having fewer Alter Ego powers would help her if we swap her to other aspects. We decided to key the extras off of her recursion power. It adds a numerical boost --only if you recur it. So far everyone just recurs Wiggle Room, because it's soooo good. Now, we have a very regular and interesting choice to make. You could wait til you have two Wiggle Rooms in your hand, but it's gonna take all six cards in your hand to play one of these cards twice. It's doable once you have a card generator or a resource generator up, but it's not easy.
