Summer Playthroughs

Phoenix - Justice + Cyclops - Leadership vs Green Goblin Mutagen Formula Pairing: Leadership and Justice usually pair well together.  X-men tend to pair well with other X-men.  And of course, Jean Gray pairs with Scott Summers.  Tons of thwart early on.  The board state was well handled - schemes were absolutely no problem.   This was definitely a big ally game.  Utopia was used to ready Phoenix every time.  Scott’s nemesis came out and caused some problems, but Scott flipped, and Jean confused him.  After Green Goblin flipped, Cyclops dropped Exploit Weakness on him and with all the readies and allies, it did an additional 10 damage.  That’s amazing.  They knocked GG down to 4, then they did 2 retaliate –so close…  After drawing seven encounter cards, they finished him off.  GG didn’t make it through his deck, though, so that’s always a good test.   Phoenix Jean never flipped.  Early on she is g...

Caught Off Guard (Standard I) Home Rule

This card needs to be changed. Maybe it could be an expert card. Home Rule: we changed this to “ Discard an upgrade or support you control, or pay one resource plus the cost of the card to keep it in play. If no cards were discarded, this card gains surge. ” One of the big problems with Marvel Champions is how many scenarios end quickly. A common complaint is, “just when I get my hero built, the game is over.” The [getting built out] part is often the struggle. I used to hate Stuns because the complaint is “I didn’t get to do anything.” Usually, you can clear them, BUT more importantly, they slow down attacks, which gives you more time to build out. So now I kinda like them for pacing. Caught Off Guard adds to the pacing problem, and prevents the fun of building out. This home rule fixes both problems. It's only one card, does it really “need to be changed?”   Well, it’s the Standard I modular which gets added to almost every scenario because Shadows of the Past is a base ...

Final Purchase? Not buying Agents of SHIELD...

With this last X-Force acquisition, I think I might be done collecting.   This is due in part to FFG retiring some sets.  Here’s what I’m missing: Ant Man War Machine (out of print) Spider Ham* SP//DR* Jubilee Sinister Motives (out of print)* Age of Apocalypse (out of print) Agents of SHIELD* I guess I wouldn’t mind picking up Ant Man or War Machine .  Avenger Leadership decks are always powerful.  I love form-changers, and I love heroes who build up counters like Gambit and Groot –I want MORE counters!  I’m just not as big a fan of these two, although he has some great cards.  BUT. Then we get to the real problem.   *Sinister Motives is a real hinge for two big archetypes: Web Warriors, and SHIELD.  This expansion really built out both of those trait lines.  If you can’t get it, then you’re getting half the Web Warrior stuff if you buy Spider Ham or SP//DR .  And you’re getting half the SHIELD stuff if you buy Agents of SH...
