Jubilee Justice + Gambit Aggression vs Green Goblin MF
Pairing
Rough start. They got hit with tons of minions early. Gambit was throwing charged attacks early, but was having trouble keeping up. Jubilee was clearing threat, but had to flip a lot. Eventually, she was stunning + confusing the villain every round. It wasn’t a fast game, but Green Goblin barely got through half of his deck, because Jubilee blocked so many activations.
Jubilee
She took a long time to finally clear Shopping Spree. In the end, she fired it off three times. She used her hero power only once at the start. Her hero power feels like such bad hero design. If there’s one house-rule I might do, it’s changing her hero power. In some ways, she plays like Gambit, boosting her attack and thwart events.
Proposed Hero Power change: Resource: Exhaust Jubilee → generate a resource. If this resource is spent to play an ally or support, ready Jubilee. If Wolverine is in play, draw a card.
Just a couple “if” statements to add conditions which could make her power better.
Gambit
I totally changed his deck to shift the ally swarm to Magik. I just felt like the allies and supports were dividing his main gimmick of boosting attack events. I switched him to a Honed Technique deck with a few more attack events. Last round, he threw a fully charged Charged Card to take out a tough minion with piercing and overkill, then threw a charged Clobber, then a second Clobber + Test the Defense for a total 28 damage, then hit with Fluid Motion and Cell Phone for another 4 damage. I still have half a mind to switch Gambit back to Justice, or even to Protection –but the X-men Protection heroes are all fantastic. I like Gambit’s charges too much. They’re fun.
Bishop Leadership + Magik Aggression vs Green Goblin MF
Pairing
These two got hit early. They were able to clear the two thralls, but GG got some attack cards, and they had both defended. Once they got some allies out, things changed. Threat was never really out of control, but it felt like we were behind a little. These are both ally decks. I may add some more “voltron” cards to Bishop’s deck, because he can heal them so much. Once again, Dust proved that in a voltron deck, she can clear the board –she hit four minions for 3 damage each, clearing three of them (all with guard), to make the final push on the Goblin…
Bishop
He doesn’t defend, Energy Absorption just soaks it and his uniform heals. Late game, he gets TONS of healing. Bishop is the only hero who can draw all resource cards and have a good hand. He made one Super Charged attack for 10. He healed his allies several times, and kept them out from the start. Because he tanks damage, he can really keep his allies going more than I thought. I completely forgot about his Alter Ego power, until his obligation came out… Near the end, his rifle was hitting for 4-5 damage every round.
Magik
Magik’s ally aggression deck is pretty strong. She threw some stuns and confuses. She defended several times. Her hero ability is 1000x better than Jubilee’s, I used it every round. End game, Magik threw a Team Strike for 14 damage.
Falcon Leadership + Winter Soldier Aggression vs Green Goblin Mutagen Formula
Pairing
Fantastic game. Neither hero got built out all the way –they didn’t make it through their decks. That’s always a convincing win. Falcon supported just fine. Winter Soldier is very aggressive when he gets built out, and I thought he was relatively versatile.
Falcon
I liked Falcon’s bird cards. I used the Wingman several times to make some free thwarts and attacks. It took me a while to figure out that Captain America links to the Shield. He definitely controls the encounter deck for boosts. That was very helpful -except you go through the deck faster.
Winter Soldier
Honestly? I like Grant Ward better than Nick Fury. Grant is zero cost ⇒ you still have four cards left. When you play Nick, you spend all 5 cards, and get 3 back. Nick moves you through your deck faster, but Grant lets you play your hand. Usually, Nick is too expensive to play because I have an important upgrade in my hand, and I don’t want to discard it. Grant is amazing! If he’s in my hand, I’m playing him 99% of the time. Stretch22 mentioned the Magneto leadership cards, but Rogue (in any aspect) might get a lot out of him too.
Nick Fury Justice + Maria Hill Leadership vs Black Widow
Pairing
After the slowest game ever with Nick and Maria vs my Green Goblin Mutagen Formula test deck, I tweaked Maria Hill’s deck. They did very well against Black Widow. There were only a few minions. The Bellerophon was a decent play to handle minion-heavy decks. Ultimately I left it in, but I avoided it for this playthrough.
Maria Hill
She got smacked early. Then got flipped from AE to Hero side and smacked again. She barely survived. She spent a lot of time in Alter Ego. I added 3 Tac Team cards, and took out The Circe and The Persephone. I’m still not sure about this, because those supports can be maintained by her cards and by her transfer token powers. The Tac Team cards were easy to play and put more counters on the board to move around. The Illiad is nice to grab early. I powered that the whole game. I think she takes too long to get built out. She’s worse than Adam Warlock in some ways. Maria switched to Alter Ego a lot.
Nick Fury
Nick’s setup is fun. His Stealth Suit is awesome. Avoiding attacks is so helpful. He belongs in Justice. I have no plans to change that. I used his stealth suit 90% for resources. So nice. I swapped some of his Prep cards with Black Widow, just to have a few more options.
