Early, Mid, and Late Game Chart
In this Article, I want to talk about another Teamwork aspect, when choosing complimentary heroes. Some heroes are great from the word go –like Gamora. Some cover the bases while everyone is building up –like Black Panther, and some are terrible until they get built out, then they dominate –like Iron Man.
I’m going to rate my (whole box) hero decks on an early / mid / late game chart to see how they stack up. Generally, if someone is playing Iron Man, you want to pick a hero who is better in the early game, to help manage things while Iron Man is “suiting up.” Note that these are the just current aspects for my box. VillainTheory has a much more complete hero evaluation on his channel.
Early Game concerns: Controlling early threats –mostly the villain, minions, and side schemes. Threat removal is always good, but it’s not an emergency in the early game. Early game is considered the first three rounds, before a lot of upgrades and allies are on the board.. Protection is vital in the early game.
Mid Game concerns: Board control. Supporting the team, building up, clearing minions and schemes while managing the villain by healing, defending, stunning, confusing, discarding, blocking, whatever. Justice and Leadership are huge in the mid game.
End Game concerns: Kill the villain before he kills you… End Game usually begins once the villain flips and becomes more powerful. Aggression is vital for the end game.
* Dr Strange is OP, but putting him in Protection makes him almost entirely about support and helping the team. I also like the home-rule that when he runs through his Invocation Deck, he has to draw an encounter card –this adds a little risk to his deck, and he becomes more interesting to play.
* Rogue is especially dependent on who she's paired with, as she can steal their traits, and play their cards.
