Card Spotlight: Deft Focus: Heroes with lots of Superpowers list

Image
Deft Focus : Heroes with lots of Superpower Cards That's right!  Magneto is out and he has three more Deft Focus cards for your collection.  I build whole box,  so that helps three more of my decks.  Even among Uber Munchkin expert solo custom deck designers,  it's common to place one in a deck with superpowers.  Here are the heroes who can get the best benefit from having one in their deck. Note that several of these heroes actually have more Superpower cards than are shown here, but I filtered out the Zero-cost Superpowers because Deft Focus wouldn't help with them.  Heroes who have less than 6 superpower cards are not shown here. Also, superpower event cards which activate on the villain phase aren't counted, because a strict interpretation of the rules reads that Deft Focus can only be used on the hero phase.  Nova has 8, but he is left out because 6 of his Superpower cards have a wild resource doubling effect, so reducing t...

Custom Card (Home Rule) Playthroughs

Custom Card (Home Rule) Playthroughs Ms Marvel - Justice, Groot - Protection, and Rocket - Aggression vs  Green Goblin Mutagen Formula - Skirmish mode. This was a quick game-night playthrough to teach Marvel Champions.  Kurt just happened to pick Ms Marvel, with my custom cards (with optional rules) for Big Hands and Sneak By.   GGMF is good for skirmish mode, because he puts pressure on you early.  I should probably have played GG II or III for skirmish mode, but I was just teaching, and the later GG's add way more early pressure.   Pairing I picked Groot as soon as someone picked Rocket.  I wanted to be able to make sure the team-up cards worked, and I wanted to be able to add counters to Rocket's weapons.  I leaned back and played a support role, defending for myself and one other almost every round.  The others were learning about support and upgrade cards vs event cards vs allies, so the early rounds were less optimal.  ...

Re-sized Fold-Out Heroes: Ant Man, Wasp, Angel

Image
Okay, many of us have fiddled with these "Giant-Form" heroes.  Sure, they look cool, and folding out is a great visual on the table when you switch to Giant Form.  I don't have Ant Man, but I do have Wasp, and now I have Angel.  Here's the problem: how do we get these to fit into a regular card sleeve? I cheated with Wasp.  I copied the giant form on a color copier, cut it out, folded it into the sleeve, so you could see the top half with the stats, and you could flip to see the bottom half with the abilities.  Angel is printed wide, not tall, so you can fold it to see the stats, but the abilities get cut off halfway across.  So,    https://champions-card-maker.pages.dev      to the rescue. Here are Ant Man ,  Archangel and Wasp fixed for regular card size to put into a sleeve.  I just print these on paper, cut them out, and then I just use some lame cards I don't care about and put them both in the sleeve.  It feel...

Xmen Playthroughs

Image
Xmen Playthroughs Note that I'm testing with Green Goblin Mutagen Formula again.  GGMF is a decent all around scenario to test most basic mechanics.  It has plenty of tougher minions, attachments, and side schemes. It has some start up pressure, and GGMF stage 2 adds a lot of pressure.  The villain pace is a good challenge ==> it's in the upper middle difficulty level among villains.   .  I added [ A Mess of Things ] to add more stuns in the deck.  The first Mutant Genesis villain is Sabertooth, who is maybe a little harder than GGMF.  I'll be trying that next. Wolverine Aggression +  Shadowcat Protection  vs  Green Goblin Mutagen Formula +  A Mess of Things Pairing:   This was a slightly slower game.  The heroes were playing upgrades early on, and they didn't have an ally on the board for a few rounds.  Once they got allies out, it was a race to take down GG.  Nothing stunning, but Wolverine's...

Xmen Acquisitions

Xmen Acquisitions: Stupid Amazon decided to have a flash 50% off sale on a bunch of Xmen decks + Mutant Genesis.  I picked up 5 hero packs + the box set.  That's seven heroes in total. Initial Impressions: Cyclops: Every card in the deck is fantastic.  This is a mega voltron deck, and Scott can have allies from all aspects, so he's like a better Adam Warlock.  I'm leaving Scott in Leadership, he looks too good, although I understand the people who put him in Aggression.   Wolverine: Obviously, Logan comes in Aggression.  His hero power lets him play an attack event for free, but you take the cost as damage --and he heals 2hp every round.  So good.  He just needs a few extra attack events like Relentless Assault and Into the Fray . Angel: Warren has aerial + changes form.  There are so many good protection cards which support this setup.  This is a keeper.  Just a few card changes. Aerial Protection:  Ever Vigilant, Hei...

Ms Marvel Home Rules

Image
Ms Marvel Home Rules Sneak By : now adds the Response, "If this is the second time you have played this card this phase, increase the threat removed by 2."  This is just slightly better.  It's six effective resources for eight thwart.  Shrink could add another two.  But that's why this is cool, because it's flexible.  You could use Shrink on the first play or the second play.  So you could thwart for 5 and 5, or for 3 and 7.  That helps clear side-schemes and such. Big Hands : now adds  the Response, "If this is the second time you have played this card this phase, increase the damage by 2."  Same effect as Sneak By , working with Ms Marvel's recursion.  It's six effective resources for ten damage.  Embiggen could add another two.  The flexibility with Embiggen lets you hit for 6 and 6, or for 4 and 8.  That could help you defeat different strength minions. These are not major fixes to her mechanics --it's just a fix ...
