Xmen Acquisitions

Xmen Acquisitions:

Stupid Amazon decided to have a flash 50% off sale on a bunch of Xmen decks + Mutant Genesis.  I picked up 5 hero packs + the box set.  That's seven heroes in total.

Initial Impressions:

Cyclops: Every card in the deck is fantastic.  This is a mega voltron deck, and Scott can have allies from all aspects, so he's like a better Adam Warlock.  I'm leaving Scott in Leadership, he looks too good, although I understand the people who put him in Aggression.

Wolverine: Obviously, Logan comes in Aggression.  His hero power lets him play an attack event for free, but you take the cost as damage --and he heals 2hp every round.  So good.  He just needs a few extra attack events like Relentless Assault and Into the Fray.

Angel: Warren has aerial + changes form.  There are so many good protection cards which support this setup.  This is a keeper.  Just a few card changes.

  • Aerial Protection:  Ever Vigilant, Height Advantage, Aerial Intervention, Cannonball
  • Form Changing Protection:   Perseverance, Ready to Rumble

Rogue: I want to switch Anna Marie out of Protection, but until I get a good hero to swap with, she's stuck.  It looks like she can play anything, so I'm looking forward to trying this deck anyway.  This is another deck where you can usually come up with the aerial trait "on the fly."

Gambit: I'm switching Remy with Shadowcat for Aggression.  Not sure about this switch, as he is very flippy, and has great thwart on his Alter Ego side (perfect for Justice), but like Ms Marvel, Gambit can boost attack events, so I'll be adding Melee, and Into the Fray.

Colossus: Comes in Protection, but he's a very flippy hero, so it's harder to do team protection.  Most Colossus Protection decks focus on recurring Armor Up, by accessing the discard pile with Mutant Education, and getting some card draw, or using Weapon X.  Card draw is hard to get, and Weapon X makes you take damage ==> removes a tough, which defeats the purpose of flipping in the first place.  I didn't see an economical way to make it work.  Colossus is taking Justice from Gambit (more flippy), but I might swap back to have Colossus in Aggression.  The trouble here was that I'm out of good thwart cards.  Gambit has good thwart on his Alter Ego side.

Shadowcat: swapped with Colossus to Protection.  Obviously, Shadowcat has amazing protection abilities with her forms.  She just needs a few more readies from Anticipation, Indomitable, and Ready to RumblePhase Strike plays like Spider Man's Webbed Up.  Super powerful.
