Galaxies Most Wanted Playthrough (with some home rules)

Image
Okay!  I've been deck testing for quite a while.  Usually when I play other villains, it's with our gaming group on game night.  Because we're testing villains now, I'm going to try to log what happens with their schemes and minions.  I've been avoiding Galaxies Most Wanted, except for Drang.  Well, we're going to try to play through this crazy mess of a campaign, and I'll be testing out the Gideon's Gaming home rules for this campaign. Thor - Aggression + Rogue - Protection vs Drang (expert) Drang:  I've played Drang before, so we tried expert.  Drang is straight forward.  No home rules here.  Some people use Drang as a test deck scenario, but it's too short to get your heroes built out. Thor got rid of Drang's spear on the first hand.  Man, Expert Drang hits plenty hard.   Main Scheme: We didn't flip a lot, so Rogue was able to keep the main scheme from advancing past 1B.  She was thwarting and defending the whole ga...

Spring Break 2025 Playthroughs

Spring Break 2025 Playthroughs One Year Later: Rich got me into this, so I blame him.  BLAME!  You've been blamed, buddy.  Rich liked the game, and gave me a copy for Christmas.  Then he started giving me extra hero packs.  He was taunting me with my favorite heroes.  Most of my friends got heavy into Sentinels of the Multiverse, and I still like that game, but I've had a real up-and-down, love-hate relationship with it.  Spring Break 2024, I had nothing to do, so I sat down and started playing the core set.  I loved that you could have some control over the decks, and I loved the idea of aspects giving each hero a role to play in the battle.  I started emailing Rich about my playthroughs.  "This playthrough was awesome!"  "I learned something new!"  "These aspects work great together!"   Rich must have had enough of my silly emails, because he finally replied, "Dude, write a blog already."  So here we are....

Team Up Cards: Home Rules

Image
Custom Cards: Team Up Cards These might be my final hero custom card set for Home Rules.  There's not too much else on the hero side that really feels broken or unfun.  My next custom cards will likely be villain scenarios: Collector and Ronan.   Team up cards are cool, and very thematic, but no one ever puts them in a deck unless you're playing a thematic duo in multiplayer.  I want to make sure we can use these with our signature allies, especially because m y friends are more into the thematics in each deck.  Hence, I've been working on this a little more in my deck building for game night. There are two big problems with these cards: There's a 1/8 chance that they'll end up in the same hand with your signature ally.  That's absolutely not worth the deck space.   The cost of a signature ally is often 3-4, and usually you would not be able to play both the ally and the Team-Up card at the same time. So the fix is to just make these al...

Whole Box - New Environment - Heroes Without Double Resource Cards

Image
Heroes Without Double Resource Cards FFG's announcement: FFG are "retiring" older expansion heroes and expansion boxes.  Captain America and Dr Strange are out of print, selling for $250 on eBay, and yes, they are selling.  Sinister Motives is gone, and somehow, Age of Apocalypse is all sold out.  Meanwhile, all older content is going way up in price. The Shift: This is kinda weird.  Star Lord, Nova,  Ironheart,  Spider Ham, SP//DR, Psylocke*, Angel*, Iceman*, Jubliee, Nightcrawler, and Magneto all came without Double Resource cards in their packs.  That's 6 of of the last 8 heroes.  Technically: Psylocke came with 3x The Power of the Mind Angel came with 3x  The Power of Flight Iceman came with 2x The Power in All of Us But if you go looking on Marvel CDB , you'll see that 99% of these decks use the standard Double Resource Cards.  Why?  Not all cards are cheap.  In gameplay, they help you play more cards.  Some play...

Hulk Home Rules

Image
Hulk Home Rules Oh boy.  I had been avoiding Hulk.  His cards annoy me so much.  He does have some fantastic aspect cards in his pack --Beat Cop, Martial Prowess, Electrostatic Armor, and Inspiring Presence.  Those will definitely help some of my (economy) decks.  But... Hulk Sucks! Okay, some heroes aren't the greatest, but they're fun.  Hulk is fun, right?  Ugh!  Hulk is 90% frustrating to play.  He is maybe more annoying than Adam Warlock, and his cards feel worse than Ms Marvel's.  This home rule affects 11 cards.  That's how bad he is.  Some of the cards are viable, but as Boomguy says, they feel terrible. Let's just think about how backward Hulk's deck is: it comes with Martial Prowess .  What a great aspect card for Hulk!  It generates a Strength resource for an attack event .  That's perfect!  Almost all his cards have a strength resource requirement.  Wait...  ...Hulk only has 2 attack eve...

Card Spotlight: Aerial Cards and Heroes

Image
Aerial Traited Heroes and Cards The Aerial trait started out with almost no support in the Core Box.  Iron Man had a few abilities which were boosted from being Aerial, but he had to spend energy to do it. Aerial Heroes: Only four heroes have innate Aerial traits on their hero identities. Almost 100% Aerial Heroes: Thor comes with Mjolnir in his opening hand, and can gain Aerial for the whole game from his hammer if he hangs on to it.  Nova starts with the Supernova Helmet in his opening hand.   Ironheart version 1 does not have Aerial, but versions 2 & 3 have innate Aerial traits on the hero cards. Mostly Aerial Heroes (with an aerial upgrade): Captain Marvel can discard Cosmic Flight to prevent 3 damage, but she has two in her deck.   Iceman loses Ice Slide if he flips to Alter Ego, but he also has two in his deck. Sometimes Aerial Heroes: Iron Man can spend 1 mind r...
