Hero Spotlight: Form Changing Heroes

 MC Form Changers + Aspect cards

When a hero changes from Alter Ego to Hero form, that counts as form-changing. These heroes have extra forms, and can change form while staying in hero form.

We have seven form-changers in Marvel Champions, as of Jan 2026, colored in their pre-con deck colors...  Ant Man and Wasp and Angel are similar.  Spectrum, Vision and Shadowcat are similar.  Spectrum is sorta like Vision and Shadowcat, but another step beyond.  She has three forms, they add to her basic stat-lines, and they interact with her hero cards...  Note that Phoenix has a Restrained and Unrestrained upgrade card, but that is not considered a "form."


Of these, lets rank them from flippiest to most stable:


  1. Shadowcat: separate form card, forced response, can sometimes switch twice or three times per round.

  2. Vision: separate form card, likes to flip both forms every round.

  3. Ant Man: two different hero-form cards, likes to change every round.

  4. Spectrum: three separate form cards, can sometimes get stuck in one form.

  5. Wasp: two different hero-form cards, likes to hang out in one form, but switches from time to time.

  6. Angel: two different hero form cards.  Early game, mostly in Angel form for readying and card-draw.  Late game, mostly in Archangel form for discounts and big damage.

  7. Hulkling: four separate form cards shuffled into his deck.


Form Changing Aspect Cards

Each of these Aspect cards will probably suit any of these heroes.  These are very cheap / efficient cards for any form changer.  Also, they can be used with a regular "flippy" hero like She Hulk or Miss Marvel.


Ready to Rumble - 1 cost to ready after form change (discardable upgrade)

Lay Down the Law - 1 cost for 3-4 thwart after form change (event)

Surprise Attack - 1 cost for 3-4 damage after form change (event)

Perseverance - 1 cost for tough status after form change (event)

Hidden Base - 2 cost for 3 tough status counters after form change (alter ego support)

Moxie - 0 cost for +1 THW, +1 ATK, +1 DEF after form change (event)

Moxie works well with Push Ahead to thwart for 9+

Angel / Protection + Psylocke / Justice vs Ebony Maw Ebony Maw:   I like how the spells give you time to plan.  They're powerful, but they don't fire off immediately.  We exploited his weakness --stuns and confuses.  This mostly prevents him from activating his spells.  Only one spell triggered (Fireball on Psylock), and they were able to slow down the rest.  At the end, there were 7 untriggered spells on the board, although 5 only had one more counter on them.  That would have been ugly: stunned, confused, take damage, discard from your hand...  Whew!  The main scheme puts spells into play immediately.   Protection and Justice are usually a weak pairing, but they handled the main scheme + one side scheme easily.  Only one minion came out.  Neither hero made it through their decks, or got fully built out.  This was a strong win. Caught Off Guard (Standard I) Home Rule

This card needs to be changed. Maybe it could be an expert card. Home Rule: “ Exhaust an upgrade or support you control. If no cards were exhausted , this card gains surge. ” One of the big problems with Marvel Champions is how many scenarios end quickly. A common complaint is, “just when I get my hero built, the game is over.” The [getting built out] part is often the struggle. I used to hate Stuns because the complaint is “I didn’t get to do anything.” Usually, you can clear them, BUT more importantly, they slow down attacks, which gives you more time to build out. So now I kinda like them for pacing. Caught Off Guard adds to the pacing problem, and prevents the fun of building out. This home rule fixes both problems. It's only one card, does it really “need to be changed?”   Well, it’s the Standard I modular which gets added to almost every scenario because Shadows of the Past is a base game element.  “Needs to be changed” refers, of course, to base game pacing....

Winter Break Playthroughs (Red Skull) 2025

Black Widow - Justice  +  Rocket - Aggression  vs Crossbones Just for fun!  I just wanted a fun playthrough with some older heroes to start the break.  I might play a few more RoRS villains with similar hero combinations.  Plus I want to test Adam Warlock with the flippy Counter Earth.   Pairing:   Black Widow almost feels like a protection deck.  She blocks so much damage and bad stuff.  Rocket was a slow build, but things happened in order.  Lots of control until they got built out, that's always a nice feel.  I like Crossbones.  He's easy-ish for my decks, but he has those nice weapons which mess with you, and lots of minions with special abilities.  Natasha and Rocket were able to prevent the main scheme from advancing for a while, but it's so short with 3 per player, that eventually, the encounter deck advanced it.  Rocket handled almost all of the minions.  I held back on Rocket's Pistol , but tha...
