Summer 2026 Playthroughs

 Ant Man / Leadership + Wasp / Aggression vs Green Goblin Mutagen Formula

Pairing:  This was fun - I really like this pair.  Great opening hands helped out.  Both heroes built out steadily.  Wasp picked up Ingenuity on the opening hand, so that helped a ton.  Ant Man picked up Team Building Exercise late, but it worked out well.  They cleared the board on the first round.  They kept the main scheme low until it weas time to flip the villain.  They got GG down to one HP --so close, but Wasp was in Giant form-- retaliate got them the win on the villain phase.  That was cool.

Ant Man:  I finally picked up Ant Man.  I initially missed a few things --his power when he flips, plus I missed the lower hand size in giant form.  I guess it evened out.  Ant Man's Giant form hit's like a truck.  He was hitting for 6 at the end.  Then the ants joined in.  

Wasp: did over 30 damage on the last round, taking out two tough minions and hitting the villain for tons with all three Follow Through cards.  I really like Wasp's puzzle.  I'm still debating whether to leave Marital Prowess in her hand, but I think with G.I.R.L. power, and how many upgrades she has, her access to events increases as the game goes.  Her Retcon card was fun as well, adding to the form-switching puzzle.

Angel / Protection + Psylocke / Justice vs Ebony Maw Ebony Maw:   I like how the spells give you time to plan.  They're powerful, but they don't fire off immediately.  We exploited his weakness --stuns and confuses.  This mostly prevents him from activating his spells.  Only one spell triggered (Fireball on Psylock), and they were able to slow down the rest.  At the end, there were 7 untriggered spells on the board, although 5 only had one more counter on them.  That would have been ugly: stunned, confused, take damage, discard from your hand...  Whew!  The main scheme puts spells into play immediately.   Protection and Justice are usually a weak pairing, but they handled the main scheme + one side scheme easily.  Only one minion came out.  Neither hero made it through their decks, or got fully built out.  This was a strong win. Winter Break Playthroughs (Red Skull) 2025

Black Widow - Justice  +  Rocket - Aggression  vs Crossbones Just for fun!  I just wanted a fun playthrough with some older heroes to start the break.  I might play a few more RoRS villains with similar hero combinations.  Plus I want to test Adam Warlock with the flippy Counter Earth.   Pairing:   Black Widow almost feels like a protection deck.  She blocks so much damage and bad stuff.  Rocket was a slow build, but things happened in order.  Lots of control until they got built out, that's always a nice feel.  I like Crossbones.  He's easy-ish for my decks, but he has those nice weapons which mess with you, and lots of minions with special abilities.  Natasha and Rocket were able to prevent the main scheme from advancing for a while, but it's so short with 3 per player, that eventually, the encounter deck advanced it.  Rocket handled almost all of the minions.  I held back on Rocket's Pistol , but tha...

Caught Off Guard (Standard I) Home Rule

This card needs to be changed. Maybe it could be an expert card. Home Rule: “ Exhaust an upgrade or support you control. If no cards were exhausted , this card gains surge. ” One of the big problems with Marvel Champions is how many scenarios end quickly. A common complaint is, “just when I get my hero built, the game is over.” The [getting built out] part is often the struggle. I used to hate Stuns because the complaint is “I didn’t get to do anything.” Usually, you can clear them, BUT more importantly, they slow down attacks, which gives you more time to build out. So now I kinda like them for pacing. Caught Off Guard adds to the pacing problem, and prevents the fun of building out. This home rule fixes both problems. It's only one card, does it really “need to be changed?”   Well, it’s the Standard I modular which gets added to almost every scenario because Shadows of the Past is a base game element.  “Needs to be changed” refers, of course, to base game pacing....
